I can change a tire, fix an engine problem (to an extent), and I am a pretty darn good cook if I do say so myself. But the kicker is, I am 26 and have not had one date in my entire life. I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to get a girl. Maybe it's because I am freakin shy as anything and I am severly afraid of the word "no"!

Ah yes, shyness. I have the hardest time talking to women.

i have no problem talking to them. it's just my mouth runs away occasionaly. anytime i open it to be exact. that usually gets me in trouble, and they leave. of course if i somehow avoid that then i have no problem as i have (if i do say so myself) a very agreeable personality. unless i'm irritated, upset, angry, or annoyed that is.

For me it's that first intial hi or the can I buy you a drink or whatever the first thing I say. Once I know that they are comfortable talking with me, then the words just flow. But I still am a little shy, worrying about saying the wrong thing. I've had opportunities to ask girls out before, but never took the chance. It's just me. Another problem I have is that I am always wondering what other people are thinking about me, escpecially women. I'm 6'7" with a size 17 shoe and a crazy spike hairstyle, sometimes I wonder when I get the stare, if it's a "Hey, he's cute" or "Look at the freak who just walked in", you know!

AWWW! I totally understand about being shy like that, I am too, but for a girl to get hit on you don't really have to say much, you just have to have a nice rack! I was always the one who forced myself to talk to guys, though...cuz I knew 9 times out of 10 if a guy was hitting on me it was because of my rack, and nothing else. I wanted to meet someone who had more depth than that.

I've always had a problem with shyness, but over time I've worked through it and MADE myself talk to people, been blown off ALOT and shot down a WHOLE LOT, but you get better with time, you just gotta try.

Wish I was single, cuz if I was I'd take you out!!

It's the same with me. Anytime a girl reacts to me in any way, they only want one thing. You all know what I talking about. The first question is always "How tall are you?" (You can imagine how many times I got that), and it's always followed by "Myfriend wants to know, or my ex was 6'2" and I thought he was tall, or I get "Man you got big feet!" or "What size shoe do you have?", or I've evn gotten "Is it true what they say?". I'm not that kind of guy. The most important thing I look for in a girl is personality and sense of humor. Looks and everything else comes after. I don't do one night stands, I think it's wrong.

Or if the chicks asking is fat you can say "Is it true what they say about fat chicks?" But that might be kind of mean.

My worst date would have to be with a guy I met in wallmart.  We started talking about cast iron skillets and he asked me out.  I figured he was a nice guy and a little country (one of my weeknesses) so I said yes.  That and he had the most beutifull blue eyes (another weekness)  So we go out for lunch and half way through the date he starts telling me all about his sick wife. and how he still loves her, but needs more affection than she is able to give.  Needless to say I paid my half of the meal and it was over.

As for all you shy guys out there... there is hope for you.  Just have patience.  I am presently the most happy with the shy guy in my life.  I was friends with him for 4 years before something happened.  Then when it did happen all my friends kept telling me they saw it the hole time.

And paddle... it is amazing what you find when you stop looking.  I was doing the "I give up on dating" thing when me and Paul got together.  In fact I used to joke with some of my friends that I had such good luck with men that I was going to become the first Pagan Nunn ever.

*confused* Dave, people ask you out cuz you have a nice rack, too? LOL!

And hey, nothing against you personally, but that thing they say about feet is NOT necessarily true! I've met guys who have little bitty feet, and, well....LOL. And another thing, it's refreshing to hear a man say that they think one night stands are wrong, I agree! In all honesty I've had one or two but didn't enjoy it at all. It's always so much better when you love them.

Redroseluver, it's nice you were with him for so long before you hooked up. Sometimes I think it's good to be friends first, it makes your relationship that much stronger. At least that way when you get married you know you married someone "real", and you don't find out 2 years down the road that you married a "real" jerk, like I did. *sigh*

By far the worse dates are those when you have to take her friend along too.

This date can't really qualify as a date, because we never met up. This girl agreed to go to the prom with me and we wanted to go on a few dates beforehand to get to know each other. BTW she drives a Z34 identical to the one drperry had. Anyway I called her and we set up a time to go bowling. Her friend, who happened to be my 3rd cousin, went with her. I get to the bowling alley after a 30 mile drive and she calls me back. Bad news, bowling alley closes at 12 on sunday nights. Then I suggested we all meet at my place and we'll watch a movie. After another 30 minute drive, which took me 20, I get back home and no one is there. I called her back, she told me that her parents told her that she couldnt come over bc it was too late.
COST: NO DATE, $6.76 IN GAS, AND, $0.50  worth of tylenol for the headache.

Ha ha ha ha aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah no. At least I don't think so lol.

Thank you! Cause then when the one night stand is over, 9 months later, you'll end up one of those dumb guys sitting in the chair on the stage of the Maury Povich show finding out if you're the daddy or not lol.

try to tell that to the girls who come up to me at bars lol. They seem to think so.

Well, I didn't say it wasn't true, I just said it wasn't necessarily true.

And as far as girls who ask you that, those aren't the type of girls you want to get with, anyway. The way I see it, if I had a penis (which, for the record, I do not) and someone decided to discuss it with me as an ice-breaker the first time I met them, I'd be kinda turned off. If I were you, I'd respond "Is it true that women who use talking about my wang as an ice-breaker are all whores?"

But that's just me...LOL

If that's the first question that comes out of thier mouths, I kinda turn the other way and keep talking to the poeple I came with. I don't want to hear that. If I'm gonna go out with a girl, I want it to be something special, not just sex and that's it, you know. If it's not at bars, it's on myspace. Some girls on myspace are getting really perverted and weird. I've gotten messages from girls wanting to meet me just for sex. If I remember right also, one of them had a boyfriend too. STUPID!!!

Yeah, that's pretty wrong. I've never believed in the cheating thing...as miserable and dead-end a relationship I'm in I'd never cheat, it just isn't in me. And meeting people on myspace doesn't seem too rewarding either...is it just me or do they make girls even more and more skanky every day? LOL

Dave, I had a thought that made me laugh and I had to share it, you're bar experiences have been all messed up. This is the way it's SUPPOSED to be when non-slut girls talk to you

Non-slut girl: Hi, tall boy with big feet, my name is Ima Hottie, what's your name?
Dave: Hi Ima, it's nice to meet you, my name is Dave.
Non-slut girl: Hi Dave, you seem nice, let's go have a drink!
Dave: Cool, and then we can go do The Hustle.
Non-Slut girl: GROOVY! I love The Hustle. You're cool!

Or, well, that's how it plays out in my mind....maybe in yours you'd go headbang, or something, LOL.

ok so best date ever! you will need some back story so here it is. i had known her since middel school but i never really got to know her untill sophmore year, we had swiming together (she looked good). anyway she was dating my nemisis, i kid you not he is my nemisis, still is. i had heard that they broke up so i jumped at my opportunity, i was so nervous that i could barly speak, i was literaly trembeling, and i dont get emotinal at all, even in emergencys(sp) never have. so she said she would think about it and kinda blew me off. i felt pretty bad. but i moved on. the semester ended and i didnt see her at all untill the last semster senior year, when she happend to sit right infront of me. so i started to talk to her again, and turns out i still liked her, we grew more fond and i eventualy decided that i wanted to ask her to prom. she said she was going with a bunch of friends (people i knew) but she invited me to join. (sweet). so i went with them and she of course looked amazing! so we went to the dance and i am a decent dancer so we tore it up for a while and she was just all over me the whole time, i dont mean dirty or nasty just that she danced with me the whole time. it was great, i had never been on a date before, LITERALY, i was 18 and it was my first date, anyway things went so well we went on some more dates. we have been together for over two years now! i only learned after we had been dating for some time that she actualy was still dating my nemisis when i asked her the first time, i felt like an ass. but it all worked out. she is the girl of my dreams, i apprently used to tell my mom about her and she(my mom) told my girlfirend, sara about it(thanks mom). i am just super lucky to have her, and i didnt even have to go through a bunch of duds to find her.

I'm a huge 5'3" and I loooooooove tall guys....always have...and being shy isn't so bad....I'd probably walk up to ya and say "wow...I wouldn't even have to kneel!" but....I'm a freak that way....and have an exceptionally sarcastic, factitious sense of humor...maybe the girls that say that..maybe one of two is shy also...and is just trying to break the ice...just cause you are shy..doesn't mean the girls going up to you are not shy....and frankly...don't put so much thought into things...sheesh....there's no science to it!

oh and it's funny you mention the whole "when you are not looking...etc..." redroselover....I just had the most fantastic date in the world...and crossed all 17 items of my "list" if I don't end up marring this guy...we will be friends for life!!! (like toe tingling high school giggles) ya know that feeling ya got when holding hands was like 5th base!!!! *sigh*  dose any one else hear birds chirping??
