ATTENTION!!!

rabbit0102030 -> ATTENTION!!! (4/18/2007 2:54:22 PM)

I'm taking suggestions for the next few How To write ups. If anyone has something they would like to see as a How To, such as Polishing Aluminum Wheels, or Surface Scratch Removal, then please speak up now. Taking any and all suggestions, easy or difficult, even if someone else has already mentioned it. The suggestions with the most demand will be written first. Thanks.

Hey rabbit-surface scratch removal would be cool along with some tips on paint touch up and whatnot. Also, for some reason I have a bunch of water spots on my hood and roof that have just showed up despite having a fresh coat of wax on the truck almost weekly.

SWIRL MARKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I had swirl marks when I bought my Blazer used 4 years ago and since then I have wet sanded the entire vehicle with 2000 grit sandpaper.  This removed a significant amount of orange peel in addition to completely eliminating all surface scratches.  The sanding scratches were removed with a Porter Cable random orbital buffer with a maximum speed of 6,000 RPMs, and 3M rubbing compounds including Perfect It II, and Perfect it 3000.  Since then I have not added a single surface scratch due to the only thing that ever touches my paint being microfiber.  No one is allowed to lean on my paint, etc.  If you'd like to know for sure if the material you use on your vehicle leaves fine scratches, simply use the material on a CD and see.  CDs are about the same delicacy as clear coat.  Microfiber is the only thing I have CD tested and found 0 abrasion.

I got a couple of things 1) the best way to wax a vehicle that has not been wax, ever..

2) get rid of chipped paint from rocks on oem paint that has tiny rust spots.

I found that a clay bar works well because you dont rub sand or small debris in to your paint
