Hey

I have an 1989 chevy s-10 blazer.

When I am driving it pulses. Its like I will be driving and then it will feel like gas stopped flowing for like a millisecond and then go then do it again and then back and forth. I actually move when it does it sometimes.

Any reason why this is?

There are several things that could be causing this. The first thing that I would try would be a bottle of iso-heat (alittle over a dollar at your friendly Wal-Mart store - back with the fuel injector cleaners in a little red & yellow bottle). Iso-heat is a fuel supplement that will dissolve water in the gas tank. Water in the gas could cause exactly what you are experiencing. In my case, my Bravada was doing exactly as you stated. I went through everything that I could think of - fuel filter, cap/rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel injector cleaner before I tried the iso-heat. Everything that I did before the iso-heat helped, but none of them completely fixed the problem.

Depending on the mileage, those other things that I had mentioned wouldn't be a bad idea - unless you know that they were recently changed. If you do the work yourself, it shouldn't cost you more than $150 for all of the parts. I recommend the Belden premium wires from Napa. They come with a lifetime warranty and are excellent wires. I installed AC Delco Double Platinum plugs (same as stock in my 2k Bravada) and used a cap/rotor from Napa. I used a Purolator fuel filter (I am very partial to purolator's line of filters).

Good Luck and let us know how things go as you try different things.

Well...

Got a new cap and rotor about a month or so ago. New plugs and wires 3 weeks ago and a new gas tank 3-4 months ago but I am sure its still gonna get water in it. I read your other post in the gas milage thing right before I read this one. Ummmm...I will try that iso-heat stuff and also fuel injector cleaner.

Might be a fuel filter since thats the only thing I haven't replaced. Like I said tho I will try the iso-heat and see what happends.

Thanks :)

I will most likely be doing this during the weekend since I get paid friday and I am only 16 so I go to school from 8-2:45 and then work till 7 and I have no money cause I spent it all on ummmm stuff :P

I am also taking my blazer to my soon to be step uncle who owns a auto body place and he is gonna fix my door sagging and maybe the squeaking in the back. I think its the window so I am gonna see if he can find the problem cause it drives me nuts. Also will ask him how much he would fix my body after winter. Like redoing the whole body because i have holes in bottom back corners and parts of my body on the bottom can flex and are breaking off. I also lost a fender flare because where they screw into the body in the wheel well rusted out.

Definitely been-there/done-that with the rust. I had an '85 S10 4x4 extended cab that was litterally falling to pieces. I got pissed off one night because my fender flare fell off... Well, long story short, they all 'fell' off after that... Yeah... fell... LOL I did like that truck despite it's anemic 2.8L with a not really carb, but no where near injection fuel induction system...

Fender flares cost so much. I wanted to get atleast the same ones I have on there now since I have no idea where one of them went. I can afford $200 fender flares for the front and another $200 for the back. Why are they so damn much?

I'd keep an eye out at your local parts yards for a replacement. You'll need to get your fenders fixed first though...

Well...I think this may be my last on the forum sadly.

I will be selling my blazer here within the next few days. My rear main seal is leaking and will cost a few hundred to fix. Also seems to be lacking alot of power and will cost to much to fix everything. The body is also falling to pieces.

My best bud that lives next to me is selling there 91 f-150 for $700. Only problem is the 4 wheel drive isn't working. I know its a minor fix for it to work because when they had the wheel bearings replaced the 4 wheel drive stopped working after that so we think something wasn't put together right or something.

The body has a lil rust just above the wheel well which can be fixed by cutting them out and adding fender flares. I feel naughty for going from chevy to ford but with the money I make and being 16 I can't afford fixing my blazer. I also only get 10mpg where the f-150 gets 12-13. I just think its a better choice for now. I do plan within the next year or so to get a newer blazer or a zr2. I know once school is over with I can afford to get a zr2. For now...its just gonna be a ford for now. Another plus is its a truck which I need.

So if everything goes as planned this may be my last post or maybe my last post for awhile. Either way...this forum has been very helpful and I thank everyone for there help.

On that Furd, make sure that you inspect the frame rails behind the front wheels VERY well. They have a nasty tendency to rust THROUGH!!!

I have seen WAY too many 4x4 Furds with rusted out frames from that time period to count!

**EDIT - Oh yeah, forgot to tell you how to check it. Get a small ball-peen hammer and tap the frame from just over the wheel to about a foot behind the firewall. If it ever changes in pitch or sounds dead, don't buy it!!! Also, if your hammer goes through, that's a clear indication that it's shot!

Well

Had the ford looked at before I bought it. There are about 10 different problems with the truck that would cost another 700 to fix. The guy remembers us from before and said my blazer would be way better off. He said with all the money you put into that blazer it would be pointless to start over again with this truck.

So I have my baby for now. I will look around for a truck hopefully some sort of chevy. Untill then...gonna be getting a body lift soon hehe.

Also wanna figure out why I only get 10mpg :|.

Lot of work to do on her still but it will be worth it.

I know this is a longshot, but have you checked the ECU? It is behind the glovebox, and can be removed from under the dash. Try swapping it out with one from a junkyard... Just an idea

Could this help both my pulses and fuel problem or just the pulses?

I talked to a guy about my leak and he said he thinks its not the rear main seal and it may be some filter or something. It was more of my mom talked to him cause he was the one that looked at the ford and said he would look at my blazer. He thinks it is something that can be easily fixed and when it leaks there it looks like it would be coming from the rear main seal.

I really want to get it fixed because adding a quart of oil every 3-4 days sucks.

Well, look at it this way, you don't have to change your oil, it's self servicing! LOL.

drkmelvin - True...I hope to have it look at soon. Will try the ECU hopefully soon.

swartlkk - Thats what I have been thinking. In the end I am losing alot of money and it needs to be fixed and I get annoyed having to check my oil. My oil pressure gauge all of a sudden stopped working right. I usually could tell by the gauge when to add oil but now I gotta actually look at the stick :(. I mean I did before when I added but now i check it every 3 days or so :(.

She has been beat to hell so I can really b*tch about it being a peice of crap.

Is that a 2.8 in your blazer? Does it have the remote oil filter? I know that they tend to develop bad leaks over time. I would get some brakeclean, and clean the bottom of the engine, let it run for a while, and see where the leak is coming from. Be sure not to drive it though, the wind from movement may blow the oil around, and you won't be able to pinpoint the leak

yeah, definitely clean up the underside of the engine. You'll need to rev the engine up to around the rpm that you typically see (probably around 2000rpm) while driving. The engine should be run until it is completely up to tempurature and then some.

All of this is to try to simulate what is happening while its running down the road.

Good Luck!

I have the 4.3

I can't really tell what the rpms are since I dont have an RPM gauge :(.

I am thinkin thats what the guy was saying to my mom but like I said my mom never understands vehicle stuff so gets it all weirded out and what not.

The leak is coming from up by the tranny. Thats all I know at the moment.

Just gonna have the guy look at it and everything else.

I just never have the time to do it myself. Not the smartest with vehicles as it is. Guy is really cheap and is straight up honest with you. He is like a guy that works at his home but just has a big ol garage.

My mom did say the guy can just look up in there and see within minutes if thats the problem.

I just hope its not a rear main seal but he said he doubts it is.

So long as you aren't going to get taken advantage of by your mechanic. There are some things that I just don't have time for anymore and have to take it to a mechanic to get fixed. It kills me everytime I get an estimate though, but I know what my time is worth and it would be better spent playing with my son than doing certain repairs, but I weigh my options each and every time.

He is an awsome guy.

He did a free estimate on that ford and found like 10 or so problems. I heard nothin but good from this guy. He really likes older vehicles and likes mine because of the look lol.

Having another problem also now. Today one to voc and twice on the way home for lunch I would turn and then give it gas and it would go all the way to the floor and it didn't do anything. Not rev up,go faster or anything. Had to pump the gas a few times before it was fine.

My blazer is one POS because once one thing is fixed a few more come along and it bugs me. I mean its what 16 years old and its not a vehicle that was keeped all nice and never been off road. Thats what happen when you get your first vehicle I guess.
