Want to upgrade your factory radio and/or your speakers? Here is all the info that you will need. You will need certain parts to install your new radio. The parts are: antenna adaptor only 1989 to 2005), a wiring harness, and a dash kit. The part numbers for these are as follows. *(M) stands for Metra Parts.   If you have a 1st Generation S-10 (1982-1993)* you have 4x6 plates in the dash, and 4X10's in the side panels, or in the rear pillar. The wiring harness to add an aftermarket radio is 70-1677-1 (Metra) and GM01B (Scosche). The dash kit is 99-4544 (M), and Gm1500B (S) *Antenna adaptor is 40GM-10 (only for Years 1989-1993)   If you have a 1st Generation S-10 Blazer (1982-1994)*, you have 4x6 plates in dash, and 6x9's in rear on side panel (4-doors will have 6 1/2's in rear doors instead of 6x9's) The wiring harness is 70-1677-1 (M) and GM01B (S) The dash kit is 99-4544(M) and GM1500B (S) *Antenna adaptor is 40GM-10 (only for Years 1989-1994)   If you have a 2nd Generation S-10 (1994- 2003)* you have 4x6’s in the dash, 6 ½’s in the doors, and 4x6’s in the rear panel. Some models will not have an actual 4x6 in the dash, rather either a blank plate or a 1” tweeter in a 4x6 plate. The wiring harness for 1994-2001 is 70-1858 (M) and GM02B (S) The dash kit for 1994-1997 is 99-3043 / 99-3044 (M) and GM1515 (S) The dash kit for 1998-2001 is 99-3300 (M) and GM1588B (S) The wiring harness for 2002-2003 is 70-2003 (M) and GM05B (S) The dash kit for 2002-2003 is 99-2003 / 99-2001 / 99-3301 (M) and GM1583B (S) *  Antenna adaptor is 40GM-10 (needed on all S-Series Trucks from 1994-up)   If you have a 2nd Generation S-10 Blazer / Blazer (1995-2005)* you have 4x6’s in the dash, 6 ½’s in doors and 6x9’s in rear side panel. On 4-Door models, you have 6 ½’s in all 4 doors. The wiring harness for 1995-2001 is 70-1858 (M) and GMO2B (S) The dash kit for 1995-1997 is 99-3043 / 99-3044 (M) and GM1515 (S) The dash kit for 1998-2001 is 99-3300 (M) and GM1588B (S) The wiring harness for 2002-2005 is 70-2003 (M) and GM05B (S) The dash kit for 2002-2005 is 99-2003 / 99-2001 / 99-3301 (M) and GM1583B *  Antenna adaptor is 40GM-10 (needed on all S-Series Trucks from 1994-up)

that is the exact same wiring for your truck

here are the wiring codes for the after market harness
12v constant is Orange - connect to yellow wire on radio
12v switched is yellow(larger wire) - connect to red wire on radio
ground is black, connect to black on radio
ignore the grey and brown, for must and illumination. don't worry about them

Speakers are
Left Front
Tan is positive - connect to solid gray on radio
Grey is negative - connect to gray with black tracer on radio

Rt Front
Lt Green is Positive - connect to solid white on radio
Dk Green is Negative - connect to white with black tracer on radio

Left Rear
Brown is positive - connect to solid green on radio
Yellow(smaller wire) is Negative - connect to green with black tracer on radio

Rt Rear
Positive is Dk. Blue - connect to solid purple wire on radio
Negative is Lt. Blue - connect to purple with black tracer on radio

are you referring to the remote lead to tell the amp to turn on??  if you have a factory radio, should be connected to the larger yellow wire

you dont need to replace them unless you want to. it would be best to get a good set of component speakers and run the tweeter up to the dash. most speakers you see at walmart/circuitcity/bestbuy...etc.etc... are coaxial speakers that have a larger speaker and a built-in tweeter on top of that. some speakers take it to the extreme and have two or even three tweeters.  i have 3way speakers in my front doors and 2way speakers in my rear doors. i have a 4x6 component speaker in the front dash.

i will probably end up getting new (component) front speakers within the next few months. i dont know how long the 3way pioneer speakers can take a 70w beating...

bobditts is correct, im not sure if 3way is the correct term but i was referring to the 3way coaxial speakers that have 2 tweeters built in...    triaxial? lol

3way pioneer speakeres (2 tweeters built in)

component speakers (tweeter is not mounted to the speaker cone, can mount wherever you want)

You seem to know a bit about wiring. Wondering if you could answer a few questions? Got a 97 s-10 blazer. Im installing a in dash dvd/cd player. If it helps the brand is a VP3 and model is VRVD630. Got everything hooked up and running besides the picture on the screen. It wont allow picture because I need to connect a wire to the parking break that disables the picture whenever the vehicle is not in park. Where is that wires closest point to the dvd player and what color would it be?
