Looks Great!! There is a different procedure on removing the radio for 95-97, and I will take pics of pulling my radio out again, and send you the links. then you can add them into your how-to

I'll get that cleaned up sometime today. I'm going to link to the auto thumbnails from photobucket and make them click through for the full res images, this will cut down on the bandwidth requirement, but still allow everyone to see an image and decide if they need to see the full shot. Once this has more or less finalized for the intended applications and the first post has been updated to reflect this, I'll copy out the first post and drop it into the DIY section, linking back to this thread for further discussion.

dang those pictures look familiar :P Good writeup. It also helps to put the truck in 1st gear so you get the shifter out of the way.

Ya know this makes me wonder. Since the newer blazers have a double din opening versus the older 1.5 din opening is it possible to use a newer bezel and use a double din deck (or a single din and a dvd player)? I think there is enough space (and if not i can get creative with a dremel and some steel for re-inforcement) so that might be something to try. Plus i gotta get a whole new one anyway as mine cracked a little bit right above the 4x4 switch when my buddy manhandled it out. Anyone know for sure if this can be done?

it will take some modification but it can be done. I will be posting up some info on that at a later time.

oh, and btw, you dont need an interface. if you had another harness that went into that black plug, then yes you do. The standard 70-2003 harness will work just fine, and retain the RAP.

Good thing I double checked the manual on the wires back there... When I was wiring my switches, I was like "OOOO! Yellow wire! Free power!" Then I was like... "Waaaaaiiiit a minute... It can't be THAT easy!" Good write up!

Air bags.... Any sort of resistance/voltage change in the wiring of those things and they can go off...

According to the Haynes manual, any time you do any kind of work on the wiring or the front of the truck you're supposed to disable the airbags, lol

actually, that yellow wire is just a loom, it contains two 22 or 24 gauge wires (white and yellow) that are your bags!!.. Just reapaired a remote start on a 99 s-10 that the shop that did it thought that was the passlock wires.

Close enough, lol, though, gives me this crazy stupid idea, to wire something in, so when the air bags go off, a loud speaker says "BAM!" or something stupid like that, lol

Thanks for the pictorial. Your timing couldn't be better. I just bought a Sony CDX-GT610Ui that I want to install next weekend. I've got a Scosche GM1588B dash kit coming and I've got the harness out of my totaled 96 S-10, so I think I'm set to go.

Well, I got my Sony installed last night. I soldered up the connections from the Sony harness to the GM adapter. I think that took the most time, but I prefer solder over crimp connections. The dash went exactly as it was posted here. I had to cut a small piece out of the dash because the Sony was hitting it at the back. The only fly in the ointment is that I forgot to buy a GM antenna adapter. Dohh!!!!

My dash kit is a little bit large for the the opening as well... Luckilly, the dash trim is a little stretchy, lol, and it went over with no problems...
