Hi,
From a stop if I turn a corner at a high rate of acceleration there is usually a mild popping sound coming from underneath (I think in the front half). If I don't take off to fast it doesn't happen. Remember this is only when I turn sharply while accelerating from a stop. It's muffled and I can feel it more than I can hear it. Just wondering if this is something I should be concerned with. Does something need to be tightened? Bearings?

the only popping sound I'm familiar with is CV joints. Try to find a cul-de-sac or something, and then crank it left and go, then turn right and go around again.

I can try that. Is that supposed to remedy the problem or isolate it?

That would only isolate it, whether both sides are doing it or only one....Only remedy would be replacement.

Yea ive got the same problem, i thought my shocks were gone and the lower control arm was smashing the upper one. I put some grease on the the lower and checked it after hearing the sound, and it had smeared onto the top (indicating they touched). Someone else told me that they normally touch sometimes, and that the shocks may not be the problem.

Also, it is only the left side which does it. Clunks and pops like crazy on a quick left. So maybe it is the CV joint, but still could be shocks or even torsion bar?

So far I've only noticed it on right turns. I even tried the coldasac(sp?).

It could also be Ujoints on your driveshafts possibly, mine started making noises like that and then vibrating at higher straighton speeds. I had no idea what it was till i took it to the shop. I'd suggest finding a good shop that wont screw you and see what they think. just my opinion.

Is it a constant popping kinda noise, or does it only do it when you first start moving or go over bumps?

Bumps don't effect it and it's not constant by any means. It's only occasional say a couple times at the most during short city drive and only during sharp turns. I just got a new set of tires (BFG AT KO) and for some reason the noise drastically reduced to the point where I only heard it once in over an hour of in city driving and it was very faint. I used to be able to make it do it most of the time by gunning it and taking a sharp right, but now it won't do it. Loose lug nuts? I know wishful thinking

the new tires could be absorbing the noise/shock because of the fresh tread and what not. To me it still sounds like ball joints, i would check/have them check for play and make sure they have plenty of grease. I would also check out the control arm bushings upper and lower on both sides, see what they look like and if theres any play at all.

I have an appointment for tomorrow morning. I narrowed it down to the noise coming from the front left during right turns. I'll let you know how it turned out for future reference

Well the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. He checked the bearings and CV joints. He took it for a test drive and couldn't reproduce the problem. He said he was practically doing doughnuts and still no noise. He was suprised that I had any problem at all considering I'm under 50k on the miles. Anyway so back to square one. The noise is still extremely subtle and less frequent since those new tires. I don't know maybe the body is just creakin like the interior.

A noice and a sharp feeling like that can be more than ball joints at times... I will list a few other things could be but try not to be too alarmed by some of them.

Exhaust Joints Moving Around
Body Mount
Emergency Break Cable Clanging Against The Frame
Your Seat Mount Coming Loose
Cracked Frame  :(

Just check everything starting at the worst possible problem as it is probably the most dangerous to drive with.

My 2 cents...

Thanks for the advice. I will check underneath to see if I notice anything. It's definitely still going on I can say that.

I'm trying to figure out a possibly similar noise myself.  But it's directly relate to sharp bumps.  It's a rattle kind of a popping from underneath the front right, every time I hit small but sharp cracks or bumps in the road, like the lane divider bumps.  It sounds like shot bushings or something to me, and sounds like a broken shock to my dad.  Bushings...shouldn't be the case as I have 100,000 miles.  I am due for an idler arm but that's all as far as I know.  the shop can't actually firgure it out either but they checked everything really important and said that whatever it is it isn't a big deal.  It's a big deal to me!  Probably a shock I guess.

Hey thanks for the idea. Maybe the left shock is going bad or something. I've been pondering the idea of upgrading them anyways. Maybe in a couple months I'll replace them. If that didn't solve the problem at least I would have an upgrade.
