I just took a trip from Dallas to Austin and cruised at 55 the whole way and got 29.4 MPG!  You'll have to deal with some angry impatient rednecks and such...but it's worth it.  It's a significant difference from when I calculated the mileage at 17 MPG at 96 MPH for a straight three hundred and something miles .  It's a 2000 4 door 4X4 LT, no mods, completely stock.  Maybe it was the 4,000 layers of wax.

BS!  I just don't beleive it.... Mine is an LS 2WD with a CAI and flowmaster exhaust, and I'm lucky to get over 20 on the highway.  I should be getting 2-3 more MPG than you.

I'm having a VERY hard time believing this too.  Did you change to a smaller tire or something?

I get 25-26 mpg regularly in my 4x4 '98 Blazer 4Dr LS (with P235 75 R15 highway tires) when I do 55mph from Appleton,WI to Houghton, MI. If you just baby it and get passed instead of passing people it goes a long way, but 29 seems really high. of course going that speed means it takes for ever and is boring as all get out, but if you want good gas mileage thats what you do.

BrianMichaels1: were you doing 55mph and drafting a semi most of the way, cause if so it is possible that he got 29mpg because depending on how close to the semi he was you can get up to a 80% increase in gas mileage (of course to get 80% increase you have to be 5-10 feet behind the semi). The information I have from this is the Mythbusters episode where they tested this myth with a Dodge Magnum.

i think he mis-caculated the numbers,  i have a 2001 xtreme and when i had my weld drag lites on it i averaged about 22 to 26 mpg but now with my 20's on i get 19 to 24.

If he filled up and jumped on the highway, then filled up again right after, I'd believe it.  My instantaneous on the highway with my old Bravada was always in the high 20's.  With my Rainier, I'm up in the mid-high 20's when on the thruway as well.  It's the stopping and getting up to speed that kills the mileage on these trucks.

Agreed, thats what I was trying to say above, of course my mileage goes to **** because of having to slow down and speed up at every little town along the road on the way up to my school. That is how I get my 25 mpg.

i just have everything done on a tune up and have highway tires inflated to 35psi, a K&N drop in filter, don't run the A/C if u can, and drive 55mph or 60mph on 55mph roads and try not to pass people, but when i have others in the car sharing the gas money i dont care and do 65-70 on 55mph and 75 on 65mph roads, and pass people every which way, gets me home faster ;).

those k&n filters are supposed to make a difference, is that what the majority of that is? cuz i usually only do 55-60 and no AC or anything. and im definatly not gonna run 75 in a 55 here after theyve come down w/ the new laws and e/t

If you look at the charts, you will only see a 1-2 MPG increase with a CAI... if you add an exhaust on top of it, you get another 1-2 MPG...

Like WhiteTie BlackJacket said, we must really be missing something... because I very rarely take off fast and I usually never drive over 55 on the highway.

Mom's Envoy is our gas-sucker... according to the built in mileage calculator, it averages 15.8-16.5MPG

The K&N filter is by far superior to stock/factory filters. They are worth it if you arent going to do a cold air intake kit or you are still under warranty. It helps, supposedly they increase mpgs, I am not sure since the second I bought the blazer I dropped one in. Also if you inflate your tires about 3-5psi higher than factory recommended it will increase you mileage since there is less friction. Also if you have a clean fuel filter and new spark plugs and wires it helps. I am not sure other than what I have mentioned how I get that kind of gas mileage, but when I am around town I only get 16-18mpg and when I mix highway and city I get about 19-20mpg. And if I am doing 70mph I only get like 19mpg.

Hope this helps. I plan on actually ruining that gas mileage by lifting and bigger tires and a brush guard with lights. so we will se how long that gas mileage lasts.

Yes, it came out to 29MPG for two different fill ups.  It has come out to 28 before but that was without using cruise and varying from 55-60.  I was shocked too, but I've only recently discovered the beauty of 55 MPH.  Plus, yes, it is correct that I fill up right next to the highway at the beginning and end of the trips to make sure it is strictly highway calculatiing.  I usually not only use the same gas stations, but the same gas pump.

Oh and forgot to mention, I never draft anyone, especially 18 wheelers.  I avoid rock chips at all costs.  Not just the major chips but the fine speck-chips in the surface of the clear coat at the front of the hood...

Hey Lenny my Blazer gets 22-23 MPG at 70-75 MPH.  This is for sure because it did this every time I calculated it on the way to California and back, 4,000 mile trip.  I think 19 is pretty low for you to be getting at 70 MPH....or maybe my Blazer is just supernatural.

The first highway trip I took in my Blazer, before I got the 30" tires, and brushguard and lights put on, got me 24 MPG and that was doing about 75MPH on the higher speed part of the highway, only slowing down to 40MPH when going through towns...
