If you have a local junkyard (you pull it type place) near you, maybe try a replacement fan & clutch to see if that makes a difference...  It would be cheaper than purchasing a new one just to find out it wasn't that.

i already did the clutch. it still did it.

used a stethescope yesterday and the noise was comin from behind the water pump pulley, so i replaced the water pump, but that didnt do it either.

could the pulley be making the noise?? but only when its at an underload temperature?

im lost.... 1st of all i cant find out where this noise is....cuz it needs to be hot, it will do it in idle for a minute....but once you open the hood...you only got a few seconds before it cools enough to stop.

im seriously thinkin off ditchin this blazer. i went thru this "replacing parts" time on my last 2 blazers too, but at least i knew what the problems were.

the sound is definitely coming from the middle or lower engine area. can hear it the most if you listen thru the passenger front wheel well

How does the water pump pulley look on the outside?  Is it worn smooth or is the paint still on it?  Have you tried roughing up the surface?

its funny you say that.... cuz after i put the new water pump in, and test drove it......once it started squeakin...i went right to auto zone to get a water pump pulley, but they said it was N/A.

the pully is pretty warn...its really shiney and smooth. i was just gonna go scuff it up some but wanted to check to see if you had replied yet.
do you think maybe that could be the noise?

Its possible.  Too smooth of a surface finish and a warm belt would make for the proper conditions for a squeak.  Try some 80 grit sand paper, sanding across the belt path and see how it goes.  Crappy part is you have to pull the fan/clutch off again, but you're probably pretty good at it by now.

I've been following this thread because I've had a similar problem, squeak that won't go away on my 2001 LT 4WD.  Mine was doing it from cold until it got really hot, after which it would stop.  I replaced the belt twice, cleaned up the pulleys, changed the tensioner...still did it.  I listened with a length of tubing held to my ear to pinpoint the noise, and it sounded like a metallic-squeak right from the water pump, so I changed that...still squeaks.  So then I bought the gatorback belt, and it stopped... for a few days.  Now when it idles and it's cold, it makes a chirp-chirp-chirp noise, like in a few weeks it's going to start the squeaking again.

Because I bought it used, I never saw what was coating the pulleys when new.  Were they just powder coated with black, or did they originally have some sort of rough coating on them?  Mine now has a number of places where the bright silver metal color is showing, especially on the idler pulley above the water pump.  I've not tried the sanding trick yet, how long does that last before it needs to be re-done?  Anyone ever try to cut lines into the pulley with a dremel grinder?

Terry

ok i sanded the pullys and all, and it still did it. but how about this.......

i got it to do it in idle by keepin the fan off and this is what i found out....
when i loosen the oil cap, or lift up the oil dipstick. the noise stops.

there is a really really lot of suction. so what im gonna go try now is to see if somethin is clogged.

ill let you know when i get back

Well, How is the PCV valve?  It's cheap enough to replace, but even at that, the vent line to the back of the intake 'hat' (the pipe that connects to the throttle body) should provide the pressure relief for the crankcase.  The PCV valve is meant to open up when positive crankcase pressure is detected, allowing manifold vacuum to bleed off any pressure.  The vent line to the intake piping before the throttle body is to allow filtered air back into the crankcase.  If the PCV valve has failed open and the vent line is somehow not working correctly, you could have builtup vacuum inside the engine.

yes, its definitely built up vaccum in the engine, cuz when i took either the oil cap or dipstick off....it was like something was holding them down.
i just put my fan back on, and the cover and im about to go try it.

i did check the pcv valve and it rattled..but what i DID find....was the "vent line to the back of the intake hat" had a bunch of  crap stuck in it. not stuck in the actual line....stuck in the hole on the intake hat.

like i said im about to go test drive it, and i hope so much that is the problem.
so far ive spent almost 200 bucks tryin to find this problem plus 1500 for a tranny rebuild.
ill definitely let you know if it worked.

well.... i cleaned all that crap out.....and no more squeak.

i dont believe it was somethin that easy.

i replaced the belt twice, before i finally got a gatorback.
got a new fan clutch that made me sound like a 18 wheeler, so i put the old one back in.

got a new tensioner assembly

sanded all the pulleys, greased them

i think i have the scent of wd40 permanently stuck to me...

replaced the water pump..

meanwhile, in the midst of all this....my tranny broke.

took the cap off to make sure it wasnt comin from there.....

but all it was , was some stuff stuck in that tube. unbelievable.

i really wanna give thanks to everyone that tried to help me. kyle you really know your stuff.

hopefully the next time i post will be to help someone, and not cuz i have some strange stupid problem.

thanks again. this forum rules

Glad you got it fixed.  It's amazing how such an odd thing like that could cause a squeak!  Weird...  And especially one that wouldn't be there with the accessory drive belt on...

Did you read any of this thread???  There are plenty of ideas on where to look...  Specifically, Danny's problem was a plugged vent line from the intake duct to the passenger side valve cover.  His squeak was caused by vacuum buildup in the engine block.

my 00 blazer is doing the same thing, except the noise starts as soon as i start it up, I sprayed wd40 on the tension pulley and the noise stopped initially, but when I took the rpm''s up a little the noise comes back until I get it back to idle normally. Should i change the belt.  I''m still looking for the intake hat to see if there is a back up or anything is clogged like the other blazer in this search area.

A bit of an old thread...

Remove your belt and check the tensioner and idler pulleys for play or any grittiness when turning them.  If you feel any rough spots or any play in the pulley, replace that pulley.

The serpentine systems on these trucks are notorious for squeaks.  I solved my squeaks with a Goodyear Gatorback belt and have recommended it to a lot of people where it has worked for them as well.

WD40 will eventually degrade the belt.  I think you can get the belt at pretty much any parts store, but either call or check their website first.
