I am in the market for new AT tires and have my eyes set on a set of either LT235/75R15's or LT30x9.5R15's. They are less than a half inch difference of each other, I am thinking of going with the 30x9.5's since they are larger (by like .4 inches). My question is which brand to get. I am looking at either Toyo Open Country AT's or BFG All Terrian KO's. The tire shop I am going to has sales on both and the price installed for the Toyo's is $450 and the price for the BFG's is $530. The Toyo's are usually more and will handle better on the road and equivalent to the BFGs on most off road terrians except deep mud and deep snow. The Toyo's also should last longer and will be less loud and have better traction as they age as well. Basically I am trying to figure out if its worth it for the extra money to go with the BFG's. Right now I am leaning more towards the BFG's cause of the aggresive look, their performance in snow (I go to school in Houghton,MI which gets 250 inches of snow a year) and they are made in the USA.

BFG All Terrian KO's                                     Toyo Open Country AT's

Pretty much just post up some experience youve had with either tire and what you think the better deal would be. Thanks for the input in advance.

Not sure who told you this, but they are mistaken.. The BFG's handle exceptionally well, and I constantly read reviews of people running them 60-80,000 miles with great traction....

The BFG AT's are by far the best tire I have ever owned... I have had experience with Cooper, El Dorado, Mastercraft, Firestone/Bridgestone, Uniroyal, Michelin, Remington, etc.... Another tire I have heard rave reviews about is the Cooper Discoverer STT

Someone here has them in a 30x9.50 but I can't remeber who off the top of my head...

i saw an explorer at school the other day with the toyo's and they dont seem to look as good when they are smaller. they look great on big trucks with like 35's but for some reason they look funny as a stock size tire.

but then again it seems like 1 out of every 4 trucks has the BFG so if you're looking for something that not everyone has the toyos wouldnt be bad but i think he coopers definately look the best

Yeah my dad has the Toyo's on his suburban Z71 which has like a 31.5" tire stock which looks good, but I think I am going to go with the BFG's cause they are more agressive looking, I think they will last plenty long for me and their made in the Good 'Ole USofA. I'll post some pics once I actually get the tires but it probably wont be for a week or two.

AWWWW, you're only going 30's, thats no fun. Especially since im getting 33's in 2 weeks or so and was still gonna sell my 31's to ya. Oh well, definatly go BFG's though, ive ridden on both and on road the BFGs are a tiny bit more spongy but offroad you will be glad you went with the BFG's.

Dude, Cooper STT's are awesome. My friend just got them about 4 days ago. Yesterday I started vacation for 2 weeks so my friend and I went out on the way home a semi had blown its tire (or tires) as there was a lot of rubber we could not avoid the screds laying all over the road ( bad thing the steel belts were on the upside) we hit them doing like 70 mph with all 4 tires and not a scratch on em' I blown tires being unable to avoid hitting them. We also ran through some corn fields and deep brush with roots and thorned bushes and even rubbed and scraped the sidewall quite hard several times (not on purpose but couldn't get around it) they looked brand new except for where they look like they have graised the curb. These will definately be my next set of tires and after seeing the abuse they took yesterday and the abuse I 've seen other tires destroyed I highly recommend them.

BFG All-Terrains or the Cooper Discovery STT. I got em both and love em both.

Cooper is one of two tire manufactures that are made in hte US and owned by US companies.

Little vid of the BFG's in the snow.

I have decided I am going to get the BFG All Terrians and am waiting for a week or two to get them put on since the sale lasts that long and I am only doing highway driving right now and want to get my shocks replaced first. Then get the new tires and an alignment. Thanks for all the input and that vid makes me want them even more.

I was going to run BFG AT tire this winter but I'm going to go with Pro Comps All Terrain tire since next month I'll get a good deal on them.

Yeah my local shop had a $75 discount on them and unfortunately didnt have the 30x9.5 tires and would have been on back order for like 4+weeks, plus they are evidently harder to find to be able to replace easily so I went with the LT235/75R15 which is pretty much the same size. I have to say the truck looks awesome now and rides alot better. I LOVE these tires.
